Combat Networks selected to provide NG9-1-1 solution to one of the largest Canadian Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) in Canada!

Announcement – January 11th, 2021

Combat Networks selected to provide NG9-1-1 solution to one of the largest Canadian Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) in Canada!

Combat Networks is very pleased to announce that after several months of rigorous evaluation and testing, another major multi-site, industry leading Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) organization has selected Combat Networks to provide them with their best in class Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) CHFE (Call Handling Functional Element), in support of  their upcoming migration to NG9-1-1.

Canadians depend on the provision of reliable and effective 9-1-1 services to seek help in an emergency. As technology and consumers’ needs evolve, so do consumers’ expectations related to 9-1-1 services. The CRTC has mandated that NG9-1-1 services be implemented in Canada starting in April 2021.  PSAPs in Canada will need to modernize and upgrade their 9-1-1 Communication Centers in order to be compliant with these new 9-1-1 standards.

This large PSAP is responsible for the operation of more than 20 Central Ambulance Communication Centers (CACCs) in Ontario and has the challenging task of providing reliable service for over 1000 telephone lines and over 200 operator positions.

The new Canadian NG9-1-1 infrastructure is expected to deliver several advantages to citizens who require emergency services when every second matters. For example, Canadians could eventually stream video from an emergency incident, send photos of accident damage or a fleeing suspect, or send personal medical information, including accessibility needs, which could greatly aid emergency responders. In addition, it will eventually be possible to call 911 and to communicate using Real Time Text (RTT) should communicating by voice not be possible or unsafe.

Canadian PSAPs are responsible for establishing, maintaining, and operating communication services to proficiently field and manage 9-1-1 calls in Canada. In the past several years, there has been growing pressure to adapt to technological advances and government mandated changes.

Common concerns of many PSAPS are how to adapt to these changes and how can a reliable project plan be created that ensures forward momentum while also providing flexibility to adapt to evolving standards.

The Combat Network’s approach to NG9-1-1 migration allows for maximum flexibility. It is well understood that each client environment is unique. Customer sites can be migrated to a “Pre-NG” stance, where agents answer E911 calls, while other sites in the solution can be migrated directly to NG9-1-1.

The design at the core of the solution ensures that regardless of the installation type, all customer locations are still on one seamlessly Integrated Platform.

The Combat Networks’ solution designed specifically for Canadian PSAPs has quickly become the benchmark for meeting the NG9-1-1 standards deployed in Canada.  In collaboration with our Partners and Customer technical teams we have continued to be the first to achieve major milestones in the on-going NG9-1-1 trials in Canada.

Combat Networks and our Partners Komutel and Avaya continue to invest in 9-1-1 development in Canada and continue to work with NG9-1-1 Service Providers to advance  the NG9-1-1 trials.

As the standards continue to evolve further testing will be required for new functionalities such as RTT , Additional Data Repository (ADR), video, telematics  as well as interoperability with other functional elements such as radio, call logging and computer assisted dispatch to name a few.

The CHFE solution to be deployed is based on “Open Standards” and offers the most robust and resilient telephony platform available on the market today. This architecture provides the reliability and redundancy required for a Public Safety environment. Its unique “Stateful Replication” capabilities provide 911 Agencies  with the peace of mind that even  in the unlikely  possibility of a  component failure, there will be zero impact to operators with the capability of exceeding 99.999% of uptime and is the only solution that can meet this level of reliability  when lives are at stake.

The 9-1-1 multi-media Agent Desktop Softphone components of the solution are based on NENAi3 standards and have been developed in Canada specifically for Canadian PSAPs and the Canadian ESInet services being implemented in Canada. The architecture has been designed to support future ESInet features such as RTT and video, but also has the flexibility to continue to adapt and grow as new technologies are introduced in Canada.

Combat Networks and our partners’ goals are to work alongside our clients to reduce the risks and disruptions associated with migration to NG9-1-1. Our NG9-1-1 solutions are supported in Canada 7/24/365.

Christopher Emery, CEO at Combat Networks identified that “recognizing the importance of NG9-1-1 to all Canadians – we have assembled a dedicated team of NG9-1-1 experts that are agile and responsive, with the sole purpose of deploying advanced, reliable communication technologies for the Canadian Public Safety Agencies. By being highly focused on continuously expanding our NG specific expertise, we aim to help protect and save lives while addressing the evolving needs of Canadian NG9-1-1 services as new features and capabilities become available for years to come”.
